Dykning med Sandaborrer

Sandaborrer er en familie af små til mellemstore fisk, der generelt varierer mellem 12 og 28 cm, med nogle få arter, der er lidt mindre eller større end dette. De ses normalt sidde på sandet ved alle koralrev under dykkerture på Koh Lanta.

Sandaborrer har lange kroppe, der er flade bagtil og mere afrundede mod hovedet. De har lange rygfinner og et spidst hoved, hvor øjnene er placeret tæt på toppen af hovedet. Kroppen er normalt mønstret med pletter og bånd, og de fleste arter har karakteristiske mønstre.

Sandaborrer lever på havbunden og findes normalt over sand eller grus tæt på koralrevene. Disse fisk lever af små hvirvelløse dyr, krabber, rejer og små fisk og har en tendens til at sidde på havbunden med kroppen støttet af deres bugfinner.

Sandaborrer er protogyne hermafroditter. Det betyder, at de som ungfisk starter livet som hunner. Når de bliver modne, kan de skifte køn til hanner, og dette ledsages ofte af nogle ændringer i farve eller kropsmønstre. Efter kønsskiftet dominerer den nye han et harem af hunner og er territorial. Når en han forlader et område, erstattes han af en hun, der skifter køn og overtager haremet og territoriet.

The Speckled Sandperch has a generally white body with a slightly greyish back and many dark lines, spots and speckles on the body. The dorsal fin has several rows of small dark spots and there is a large dark blotch on the tail.

The female has a spotted face, and the male has dark wavy lines on the cheeks.

Latticed Sandperch

The Latticed Sandperch grows to 17 cm and has a greyish to tan back with dark blotches. The middle and lower body is white, with a row of brown or dark orange spots with dark centers along the lower body.

Adults have a yellow or white streak on the tail, and adult males have a dark ocellated spot above the gill cover.
